As a practitioner of design for over 25 years, I believe in DESIGN as a broad, interdisciplinary endeavor that includes architecture, graphics, objects, and decorative arts. My approach to design is driven by Charles Eames’ quote “Design depends largely on constraints.” Every design problem is a question to be solved and a constraint to be overcome. Critical and creative thinking are key components to that solution. I am an advocate for big-picture thinking paired with an attention to detail, a strategic thinker and problem-solver, and get excited about the history and theory of design put into practice.

With over 25 years of management experience in a variety of roles, being able to help manage our own small business is the fulfillment of a dream. Working primarily in the book industry, I have expertise in management, purchasing, sales, operations, and distribution — and while none of which are particularly relevant here, Douglis’ experience in book design and production results in the complete package in that area. More generally, I’m the detail-oriented, practical counterpart to Douglis’ big-picture creative thinking. I enjoy being able to utilize the business skills I’ve developed to continue to grow Documodern while also ensuring our clients (and Douglis!) are happy.

Finnegan “Finn” MacCool | Human Resources
Finn is responsible for employee wellness and office morale. He is proud of his Boston Terrier and Boxer heritage, and is well-known for his abilities in national security (specializing in giants) and causeway construction. He has developed numerous methodologies devoted to maintaining the live-work balance among staff — including a rigorous schedule of fitness and playtime activities. Finn is also responsible for employee safety, building security, and waste management.

We work with a select group of trusted on-call talent that assists with everything from photoshoots and presentations to design thinking and market research. While these are often recent graduates, we also rely on specialists, consultants, and registered architects as needed. We value the input of others and welcome their participation. We promise that they will not remain unnamed, and full credit will always be given for their contributions.
